The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Child Care Center Services in Los Angeles, California.  Metro is seeking a professional proposal to operate and manage its Gateway Child Development Center on the basis of a four (4) year lease, with options to be negotiated.  A non-mandatory pre-proposal conference will be held on February 23, 2012 at the Metro Gateway Plaza Building, and proposals are due by 4:00 pm on March 19, 2012.  The RFP can be  obtained by sending your full contact information in an email request to Donna Adams at doadams@metro.net.

The Director of Childcare and Educational Services works under the supervision of the Executive Director to develop, implement and manage community education programs and activities for targeted clients, including infant/toddler, preschool, after school, and adult education programs that are aligned with the needs of the community and the goals and objectives of the organization.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Administrative

                       Assure compliance with applicable state and county codes and regulations for licensed childcare facilities.

                       Comply with State Licensing Child Care regulations including completing appropriate paperwork.

                       Establish policies on admission, attendance, and fees.

                       Prepare monthly reports on the status of the program to the Executive Director.

                       In coordination with the Directors of the Family Shelter Program, A.L.L. Program, Family Resource Center and Continuum of Care, recruit and enroll new clients in the agency's educational programs; develop and implement adult education programs that meet clients' needs.

                       Maintain a variety of records, including registrations, permission slips, accident reports, medical records, etc.

                       Prepare and maintain the Childcare/Preschool Handbook containing procedures and policies.

                       Participate in agency staff meetings, professional development workshops, classes, and organizations.

                       Actively pursue and maintain program accreditation.

                       Other duties as directed by the Executive Director

Supervision and Personnel

                       Recruit, select and hire qualified staff to run the preschool program in compliance with state regulations.

                       Plan and provide regular, ongoing staff development opportunities and training.

                       Hold staff meetings on a regular basis.

                       Develop and implement a plan for managing a network of substitute teachers and utilizing community volunteers.

Curriculum and Instruction

                       Collaborate with teachers to plan instructional activities and lessons, which promote developmentally appropriate student learning in accordance with NAEYC and California Preschool Foundations

                       Oversee and formally evaluate the curriculum and the instruction of the staff.

                       Procure and organize instructional equipment and supplies.

Facilities and Safety

                       Monitor the safety of students, staff, and facilities.

                       Develop, implement, and monitor a safety plan in line with state regulations

                       Regularly inspect equipment and play areas to ensure safety and cleanliness.

                       Procure and use all required safety equipment and train staff on its use.

                       Ensure that all staff is CPR and First Aid certified.

                       Financial

                       Develop and maintain an annual budget.

                       Manage books.

                       Prepare financial statements on a monthly basis and present them to the Executive Director.

Marketing and Development

                       Promote the positive image of the childcare center and educational programs.

                       Work with the school advancement director, principal, and development committee to market and advertise HIS childcare center and educational programs.

                       Participate in agency tours, outside speaking engagements, board meetings, and other events to represent the agency's childcare and educational programs as needed.

Required Qualifications

                       Three or more years experience in a childcare or preschool setting with management experience

                       Baccalaureate Degree in the field of Early Childhood or the equivalent

                       Must have demonstrated effective leadership in instructional programming, implementing

                       Must be experienced in supervising a diverse professional staff

                       Must have a proven record of managing an early education facility

                       Understanding of NAEYC accreditation procedures

                       Pediatric CPR & first aid training

                       Current negative TB test  

Preferred Qualifications

                       M.A. in Early Childhood Education or the equivalent

                       MFT, PPS and/or Administrative Services Credential highly desired

                       Bilingual (English-Spanish)

Must be creative, a self-starter, and self-motivated, with strong organizational, communication and writing skills; work cooperatively with others to set goals, resolve problems, make decisions that enhance program effectiveness, promote professional development and lifelong learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Operations

The Executive Director (ED) insures that the Organization’s mission, philosophy and policies are maintained and directs all aspects of programs and events.

Ø      Oversees publications, public relations, web site.

Ø      Hires, trains, evaluate and manage staff and independent contractors, oversee volunteers; expansion and development of curriculum.

Ø      Decision making and policy implementation responsibility regarding liability issues, including insurance and risk control mechanisms. 

Ø      Insures that all safety guidelines are followed and new ones created when necessary. 

Ø      Is knowledgeable and keeps abreast of issues relating to early childhood education, the environment, young children and the community.

 

Board

The ED works closely with the Organization’s Board of Directors to set the direction and goals of the organization.

Ø      Works with Board on strategic planning.

Ø      Serves on and staffs Board of Directors, Executive Board and Board committees. 

Ø      Identifies potential new Board Members. 

Ø      Keeps Board educated about activities and issues. 

Ø      Assists with Board Meeting agenda development.

Ø      Submits agency budget for Board approval.

 

Fundraising

The ED manages the Organization’s fundraising program.

Ø      Creates fundraising plans.

Ø      Cultivates relationships with current and potential donors.

Ø      Oversees foundation, government and corporate grant writing, grant research, grant implementation and reports, as well as sponsorships. 

Ø      Oversees membership solicitation projects and all related materials.

 

Fiscal Oversight

The ED is responsible for Organization’s fiscal oversight, management and growth.

Ø      Develops annual program and project budgets with CFO and Asst. CFO.  

Ø       Insures that expenses remain within the budget, financial records and reports are maintained and sufficient funds are raised. 

Ø      Reviews financial statements with Assistant CFO and CFO. 

 

Community Presence

The ED serves as organization’s key public spokesperson.

Ø      Builds and maintains relationships with community volunteers, community leaders and elected officials.

Ø      Acts as a liaison with public, media, political staff and other organizations.

Ø      Networks within the community to increase funding for and awareness of the Organization.

Ø      Forms collaborative relationships with other public and community agencies

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

The Executive Director is a mission-driven, ambitious, strategic-minded, personable individual with proven leadership skills. Required qualifications are:

-          Bachelor’s degree

-          Passion for and experience with nature, environment and early childhood education fields

-          Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

-          Success in fundraising including writing and securing grants, donations, major gifts, capital campaign

-          Experience with administrative and fiscal management including oversight of staff and volunteers, multiple programs and projects

-          Excellent computer skills

Developing and maintaining strong and caring relationships with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and parents through maintaining a primary caregiver relationship with each child and his or her family in order to help achieve the individualized goals set for the family and/or child.

Qualifications: Teacher Permit or higher issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Associate’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field with a minimum of 24 units of ECE coursework. Working knowledge of early childhood programs standards licensing requirements and operations including prior teaching experience in an ECE classroom. Working knowledge of developmental and educational standards for children birth to five years. Demonstrated skill in curriculum development and modification for children birth to five. Prior experience with children and families from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Experience with children with a variety of disabilities (preferred). A valid first aid and CPR certificate or the ability to obtain one within the introductory period. Effective oral communication skills both oral and written; bi-lingual skills in Spanish/English are preferred.

Step by Step EDU-Play - Behavior intervention services are provided for children with disabilities and their families. (Infants, toddlers, young children, school age and adults)  The program is designed to provide comprehensive, developmentally appropriate intervention within the context of the family in the child’s natural environment. This is a family training program.

 

Applicant must meet the following criteria to be considered for an initial screening for an interview:

·         Must be available for a minimum of 15 hours per week

·         Must be available between 3:30 and 8:00 PM on Week days and significant flexiblility on Weekends

·         Must have experience in this field and have an excellent work ethic.

·         Must be able to work independently in a home based environment with parents and caregivers.

·         Must have reliable transportation, appropriate insurance and current CDL.

Requirements for Behavior Interventionist

Pretend City Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization whose mission is to build better brains through fun, whole body learning experiences and empowers children and their grown-ups to meaningfully connect with and expand their world. Designed as an interactive and hands-on museum, Pretend City Children’s Museum provides programming, activities and learning opportunities that are not typically offered in schools or readily accessible within the community.

 

We are currently seeking a Program Coordinator to perform a wide variety of tasks related to the museum’s Developmental Screening Initiative entitled, “Good to Go from Head to Toe!”  The Program Coordinator will primarily assist the Program Manager to plan, execute, and finalize all activities and projects relating to this initiative. Must have excellent writing skills, be organized and extremely detailed oriented, and have a high level of initiative, creativity, and energy.
